The Proud Peacock first established in Glen Waverley 2002 by June and her family, specialising in authentic Vietnamese cuisines. June started the business, as she saw the struggles in her parents’ life and wanted change to give them a better life. June’s mum came from a very poor family and having June’s grandma passed away at the age of 4, forced her mum to start work at a very early age. June watching her mum work hard every day and struggling to provide for her family of 7 kids is what drove June to build this restaurant for everyone to enjoy. The customers are everything to June and she believes is all the small things that she does for the customers to make them feel at home when eating at her restaurant. In 2012, Proud Peacock moved to Pinewood, where June had her first kid. This motivated June to work even harder and to set a good role model for her daughter, as her daughter means the whole world to her. This was one of the toughest period in her life, but her customer, her daughter and her family is what kept her going. On the 13 December 2017, the unthinkable happened. One of the chief left one of the pot cooking overnight and the whole restaurant was burnt down. June arriving to the ashes of her second home and fire brigade, that she served on a daily basis, broke her heart. Everything in there was what June worked so hard to build for her family. That day, June did not know what to do with her life. Sleeping that night, she hoped it was just a nightmare and that everything will be back to normal when she wakes up. Waking up the next morning, with tears still in her eyes, not knowing what to do and still feeling like her heart was just ripped out of her chest, she felt like all her hard work was for nothing… It was then, June started receiving a hundreds of messages from her customers and friends with the immense support and love, that reminded June why she started this all in the first place. The last 6 months, June worked hard finding anyway to rebuild Proud Peacock. June found Daniel and Grace, who have now joined to help rebuild Proud Peacock in Hamilton Place Mt Waverley. Every day, June continues to work hard to make sure Proud Peacock has the same homely feel when customers walk in and have the same fresh authentic Vietnamese food. June is now happy to announce the reopening of Proud Peacock at 28 Hamilton Place, Mt Waverley on the 5 June 2018 at 11:30 AM. Come and celebrate with her as she would love to put a smile on each one of your faces.

We have been following June and her Mum since her early days in Glen Waverley.
Her genorosity of heart flows from her and is evident in the food she cooks and the atmosphere of her restaurant. Delicious authentic flavours of Vietnam have our mouth’s watering just thinking about Proud Peacocks’ menu. To top it off the new restaurant is now in our suburb. Thank you for many wonderful meals and more to come.

We were so lucky to stumble across the original Proud Peacock all those years ago, June instantly connected with us and we have so many incredible memories of enjoying all the food with our friends and family who we introduced to this little goldmine! We were utterly heartbroken when we heard of the fire but we knew June’s incredible spirit would see her grow onto bigger better things. June not only feeds us the BEST food around, she is also now our dear friend, her passion and generosity are second to none and I can honestly say that the world would be a better place if we have more June’s! Sending so much love and cannot wait to be back in Melbourne to visit again.
Lots of love, your buddies always, Hemani and Nigel x

The food at Proud Peacock is absolutely delicious but it is a restaurant with a difference. It is evident from the time you walk in that this restaurant has a heart. Many restaurants provide excellent service but Proud Peacock is a cut above excellence. It is focussed entirely on quality food and customer service. Which restaurant do you know gives you free dessert and if you say that you can’t eat anything else, June will ask you to take the dessert home for your family. Well done, June and we look forward to coming to PP again soon.

This gem of a Vietnamese restaurant is very unique. We have been coming to PP for years and love dining there for its wonderful fresh food experience, friendly and warm atmosphere and expert service. The long queue at opening time is a testament to the popularity of Proud Peacock. June, the Proprietor is very professional, always busy and still finds time to ensure all is going well at the table. We dined there only last Sunday evening, 7 guests in total for my husbands birthday. From the time we arrived til the time we left (almost 3 hours!) we were spoilt with such a variety of beautiful food and all served in a timely manner. You know you will always have an enjoyable experience at PP. June is also a very generous person and showered us with some extra thank you dishes, extra icecream for the birthday cake and some of her famous Chili jam which was totally unexpected. June, we love your exuberance and fun nature! We’ll be back again, and soon.
